His research activity is focused on the evaluation of the protective effects of plant foods in humans, with a specific interest in dietary polyphenolics. Daniele has been listed (both in 2014 and 2015) by ISI Thomson Reuters among the still active most influential scientific minds. He is the Editor in Chief of the “International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition”, published by Taylor & Francis, and a member of the editorial board of “Molecular Nutrition and Food Research”, “Nutrition Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases” and of “NFS Journal”.
