Gunhild Stordalen
MD, PhD

Gunhild A. Stordalen (born 1979) is a Norwegian medical doctor and environmentalist, and holds a PhD in pathology/orthopaedic surgery from the University of Oslo. She is the co-funder and chair of the Stordalen Foundation, which she established in 2011 together with her husband and Norwegian hotel chain owner Petter A. Stordalen. Under the Stordalen Foundation, she initiated the environmental organization GreeNudge, now an independent foundation with the mission to initiate, fund and communicate behavioural research on measures that can nudge and push forward sustainable behaviour at scale. She chairs the GreeNudge management board. In 2013, she founded the EAT initiative under the Stordalen Foundation, together with the Stockholm Resilience Centre as the main academic partner. Stordalen has been a driving force in linking climate, health and sustainability, through conferences such as the Swedish Society of Medicine ́s “Global Health – Beyond 2015” and Oxford University ́s ReSource2012. She is also heavily involved and has helped develop the annual Zero Emission Conference (ZERO). She holds several board positions in both corporate companies such as Home Invest and Nordic Choice Hotel Group, not-for-profit organizations such as Zero Emission Resource Organization (ZERO) and EcoHz Renewable Energy Foundation. In addition, she serves at the International Advisory Board of Stockholm Resilience Centre at the Stockholm University. She has served on the Norwegian Medical Association ́s Council for Human Rights, Global Health and Climate Change, as well as Norway ́s National Council for Sustainable Development. She is a published scientist and a renowned public speaker with a distinct, personal voice and a strong, passionate commitment. Stordalen has several times been ranked among the 100 most influential Norwegian Women by the Financial magazine Kapital. She was named Woman of the Year 2013 for her environmental work by Norway’s largest magazine for women, KK, and appointed Environmental Hero of the Year by WWF Sweden in 2014. In March 2015, she was appointed Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
