Stephen Devries, M.D is a preventive cardiologist and Executive Director of the Gaples Institute for Integrative Cardiology, an educational nonprofit with the mission of advancing the role of nutrition and lifestyle in healthcare.
The Gaples Institute conducts live nutrition science/hands-on cooking programs and develops interactive nutrition and lifestyle continuing medical education programs. “Nutrition Science for Health and Longevity”, an e-learning program developed by the Gaples Institute, was shortlisted at the 2017 international Reimagine Education Conference sponsored by the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Devries is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago.
Dr. Devries received cardiovascular specialty training at Washington University in St. Louis and later completed a Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology.
Dr. Devries wrote “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Cholesterol” and co-edited the book “Integrative Cardiology”. Dr. Devries was the lead author on the largest study of physician nutrition education and practice, as part of his affiliation with the American College of Cardiology Nutrition Working Group.
Dr. Devries has been voted by his peers many years over as one of the “Best Doctors in America” and lectures internationally on integrative approaches to prevention of heart disease, most recently at the Royal Society of Medicine in London.
Dr. Devries and his work in integrative cardiology have been featured on National Public Radio and PBS.
