Sonja Overhiser is author of the award winning food blog A Couple Cooks and the book Pretty Simple Cooking, named one of the best vegetarian cookbooks by Epicurious and Food & Wine. Together with her husband Alex, A Couple Cooks has gained a worldwide following for delicious vegetarian and plant based recipes, and a lifestyle approach to eating well. They are also authors Voraciously: Plant Powered, a Washington Post recipe series on how to cook more plant-forward meals.
A Couple Cooks was awarded the IACP Best Individual Blog award in 2019 by the International Association of Culinary Professionals, a professional food media association co-founded by Julia Child.
Sonja and Alex did a 180 from fast and frozen food to eating a home cooked, mostly whole foods plant based diet. The positive changes they experienced from a lifestyle approach to healthy eating prompted them to start their website A Couple Cooks in 2010. Today it receives millions of page views and connects people all over the world to their vibrant and healthy, plant forward recipes.
A Couple Cooks has appeared on the TODAY Show, and been featured in numerous print and online publications, including Washington Post, Oprah, Food & Wine, and Bon Appetit. The couple works as healthy food influencers, recipe developers, food photographers, and on screen video hosts for major national brands including ALDI and Earthbound Farm Organic.
Sonja is a national advocate for healthy and sustainable eating to improve our health, communities, and planet. Her interests include plant based eating, planetary health, and food justice. Sonja is co-founder of the organization Indy Women in Food that champions women in the Indianapolis food industry, and has been featured as a trailblazing woman in food. She seeks to inspire adventurous eating to make the world a better place one bite at a time.
