Ms. Zelman is director of nutrition for the number one health and wellness website, overseeing diet, nutrition, and food information. Additionally, Zelman serves as the nutrition expert for United Healthcare Source 4 Women and United Healthcare television contributing monthly webinars, articles, recipes and video responses to member questions. She has extensive media experience, including co-hosting a weekly radio program, 12 years as a national spokeswoman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), and numerous print and television appearances. She is a contributing writer for newspapers, magazines, and books.

Zelman received one of the highest honors from AND, the 2016 ‘Lenna France Cooper Memorial Award’ in recognition of a distinguished career and remarkable contributions to the dietetics profession. In 2007, Zelman was awarded the prestigious AND “Media Excellence Award” for her contribution and commitment to educating consumers about food and nutrition. The American Society for Nutrition (ASN) named Kathleen the 2011 recipient of their “Nutrition Science Media Award” for outstanding science and nutrition journalism. In June, the Institute of Food Technologists awarded her with the 2012 “Media Award for Excellence in Consumer Journalism”. In 2014 Zelman was awarded the “Distinguished Alumni” award from Montclair State University.

Zelman is an invited speaker at professional meetings worldwide including sharing the stage as the nutrition expert with First Lady Michelle Obama celebrating Let’s Move and with USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack to make comments at the launch of My Plate.

Zelman has been a dietetic internship director at Ochsner Medical Institutions and assistant professor of nutrition at St. Mary’s Dominican College, both in New Orleans. She has extensive experience working with children and weight management clients, chefs, and restaurants in analysis and development of healthy recipes.

She recently served as the director-at-large on the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ board of directors. She served as a trustee of the Georgia Dietetic Foundation and as the Georgia delegate to the academy. She received her master’s degree in public health from Tulane University and her bachelor of science from Montclair State University.

Ms. Zelman serves on the advisory board of Share our Strength, a nonprofit organization aimed at childhood hunger, is a judge for the James Beard Foundation Journalism Awards, and is a member of the Registered Dietitian Advisors program for the Egg Nutrition Center and Healthy Living Council for Jamba Juice.
